What is a Phobia?

Fear is a natural response we all have to a threatening situation and it’s purpose is to keep us safe.  If you came face to face with a dangerous wild animal, your body would automatically engage into the ‘fight and flight’ response, meaning we either prepare to fight the threat or run away from it.  A phobia is an irrational fear, it is a fear of something that causes little or no danger to us but yet it triggers that same fight and flight response, leading to feelings of panic, anxiety and a loss of control. 

It has been estimated that 1 in 10 of us will be affected by a phobia at one point in our lives, so phobias are a very common thing to be dealing with.  You can have a phobia relating to almost anything, including:
